CITY WINERY PRESENTS - Marc Cohn's 25th Anniversary Tour
Posted on 12/22/2015

Celebrating his GRAMMY-winning debut album

Marc Cohn

GRAMMY - award winning singer-songwriter Marc Cohn celebrates the 25th anniversary of his platinum debut album, Marc Cohn, with a very special City Winery tour.  This tour marks the first time Marc has performed his landmark album in its entirety from start to finish. He will be joined by an all-star band featuring some of his favorite musicians and perhaps a surprise or two along the way. To make these shows even more illuminating, photographs and video from Marc's personal archives will be shown for the first time. Fans will not only hear the music that has become part of their own personal soundtrack, they will see some of the people and places that populate these songs.

The best-selling male debut album of the 1990s, Marc Cohn begins with the epochal “Walking in Memphis.” According to legendary music critic Dave Marsh, “Its perfectly written narrative takes into account the whole history of American music, from where it begins in storefront church gospel and W.C. Handy’s blues to where it shoots out into Elvis and Al Green and, at that climactic moment, Marc Cohn himself. That unforgettable moment when he declares, “Ma’am, I am tonight!” remains Cohn’s proud signature…”

As important as Cohn's calling card is, loyal fans already know that “Walking in Memphis” is a great opening track on a classic record and also the beginning of a larger story that continues to this day. “Ghost Train,” “Silver Thunderbird,” "Perfect Love" and “True Companion" all exemplify what Marsh calls Cohn's "grand sense of detail," and are equally important centerpieces of his debut. This anniversary tour is a celebration of 11 songs and an artist that has stood the test of time.
